As cloud becomes more prevalent, the technology is beginning to offer more pronounced, user-focused benefits for investment firms, institutions and everyone in between. But what are the new frontiers, how can they be achieved effectively, and are these in turn narrowing the profile of those the technology is most effective and useful for?

The ability to access portfolios on the fly is the next big step for cloud, and it’s something that expresses the power of the technology most eloquently. Philippe Buhannic, CEO at TradingScreen, says he agrees with this, and understands where on-the-move applications are best suited.

“We clearly have two issues to resolve with cloud—which services are we going to make available, and how we get mobile,” he explains. “I was a trader all of my life, so I’m a bit of a non-believer in people taking a $3 billion position on the subway. I don’t really believe in that. However, it’s all about risk reduction. And to have in your hand, on your iPad, anywhere in the world, a very good view of your position, that’s really fantastic, if you can throw the position or hedge it.”
